going under

full anesthesia, my boy. tomorrow. it's an eye operation, and we have been debating back and forth what to do.

he has a lazy eye and is losing sight on it. it was always "sliding" out a bit when he was tired, but the last 4-6 month it is almost constant. doctors are telling us it cannot be adjusted with patches and glasses, but we were very reluctant regarding an operation. but lately he has complained a lot. he is always closing or covering one eye, as he cannot focus and it bothers him. he says his eye is "rolling around", because he can still see on it and his eyes are sending two different images to the brain. eventually his brain will shot down on the lazy eye.

so here we go. it's scary and it's awful, but if everything goes according to plan, we will be home tomorrow afternoon. and hopefully he will no longer have to deal with this.

  3. wishing your boy well. It is scarier for the parents then the kids I think. Just have lots of hugs and his favorite snack/beverage ready for him when he comes out.

(We recently had ear tubes put in for our little guy, it was really scary but it has been SO much better w/o all the ear infections!)

  9. I'll be praying for him. And for you! He will be fine. And he will feel so much better when his eyes are both working together. I understand it's scary, though - I was very scared when my daughter had thyroid surgery. May God go with your boy every step of the way.

  13. From an American mother in Indonesia that has had her three year old have brain surgery in India and the U. S., good thoughts sent your way.

Pediatric anesthesiologists are a special professional and work wonders with children and their parents. If you need to talk out anxieties the nurses are a great source.

So very good you are getting this surgery done. It should be very beneficial for him: )

    Cheers -

    Ann

  14. It's scary. But it's good when surgeries are planned and done to improve life, and not as emergencies to save them. I hope your boy's eye won't "roll around" anymore. Thinking of you all.

We are debating the 'same' problem. Rover has hearingloss in one ear, so do we operate (if it is possible) now or later ...
