just a week ago

when mud was still something you had to work for. before the rain started. that said, we actually had lots of sun and blue sky yesterday. and we are even expecting a heat wave by the end of the week. yeah!

we recently made a sandbox with an old electricity pole we got from D's brother. cut it into four pieces, made a square and filled it with sand from the nearby beach (not sure that's legal... don't tell anyone). they can spend hours playing with mud. it's messy, but it seems to have an almost meditative effect. and i will choose dirty, happy and calm outside over clean, restless and noisy inside any day. so good we got the sun back.

  1. Oh, what kid does not like a sandbox? Your children seem to be having lots of fun! It reminds me of a therapy session a friend of my sister's went to once - she was asked to sit in a sandbox and play in the therapist's office - she was in her thirties. I don't think she ever went back!

  9. You stole sand?! I'm shocked. We did too, by the way, wondering whether sand belonged to everyone or no one or what. But we can agree that it belongs to children:)

  10. oh that first picture, i love it! - just look at how much devotion goes into filling the pot with water, and that gleeful excitement: let's make mud! i loved it too when i was little. my mum has an old photograph of me and my brother (just 15 months apart, the two of us) playing in the sand pit at something like 6.30 on a sunday morning...
